Mykola Sheremeta
Mykola Sheremeta (b. 1992, Ukraine) is an accordionist, performer, educator, and cultural mediator based in Oslo, Norway. He began playing the accordion at the age of eight, and music has been the central focus of his life ever since.
He studied at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in the class of Professor Mykola Davydov, and later continued his studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Professors Frode Haltli, Erik Bergene, and Andreas Borregaard, completing his studies in 2020.
He also holds postgraduate education in ensemble conducting and leadership (Ensembleledelse I) from the Norwegian Academy of Music, which he completed in 2024. There, he worked with conductors and musicians such as Rolf Guptaand Cathrine Winnes, who contributed to his artistic development in conducting and ensemble work.
Throughout his career, Sheremeta has worked as a performer, soloist, and ensemble musician, participating in a wide range of artistic projects across genres including classical music, contemporary music, tango, rock, and interdisciplinary performance. He has also taken part in circus-based artistic productions, expanding his work into physical theatre and stage performance. He has been involved in concert productions, festivals, educational programs, and touring projects in Norway and internationally.
He has also collaborated with acclaimed directors and stage artists such as Anne Mali Sæther, Adrian Schvarzstein, and actor Ivar Beddari, experiences that further expanded his work in physical theatre, stage presence, improvisation, and interdisciplinary performance.
His work includes collaborations and projects such as “Ave Maria,” “Oslo Tango Project,” “Beddari,” and other concert and interdisciplinary productions combining music, theatre, and live performance.
Alongside his artistic work, he is also active as a music educator for children and adults. He is co-founder of TREKKSPIOLIN Kultursenter, where he teaches accordion and leads ensemble work, creative workshops, and group music activities. He is also the founder and conductor of the children’s orchestra TREKKSPIOLIN, which he created to provide young musicians with an early ensemble experience and a creative musical environment.
He has also recorded two albums. Both were recorded live in studio, without post-production editing or splicing of takes, preserving the integrity of complete, uninterrupted performances. Live in studio means that the music is performed and recorded in real time, as a continuous performance, without later corrections or editing.
His first album, Mykola Sheremeta, was recorded in 2010. It features music from the Baroque era as well as original works for accordion.
His second album, Chords of Soul, was recorded in 2015 using the same live-in-studio approach. It includes both classical repertoire and original compositions for accordion.
Today, his artistic practice continues to develop through new collaborations, interdisciplinary projects, and educational initiatives. His work is driven by curiosity, communication, and a strong belief in music as a shared human language.
In terms of personal artistic direction, Sheremeta is continuously exploring new forms of expression that connect music with theatre, movement, improvisation, and storytelling, with a long-term focus on creating meaningful and accessible musical experiences for diverse audiences.
